January 14th

2 days till surgery!  We have a storm here, there is no school for Ariel (the little girl staying w/us in foster care).  Our four children have been delivered to Betty Christy in NY.  The bad weather expected today changed our plans, so now instead of the children being here with Betty during surgery week, Rich took them out to NY yesterday.  How good it is to know they are in great hands!  Ariel goes to respite care tomorrow, and will come back to us when this is over.  She will probably be here until we receive our new son.  I am thankful for the quiet house and time to get a lot of things done.  A couple days ago, we met with another surgeon who will be assisting during Rich’s surgery, and he seemed to think it would be at least 6 weeks before Rich could resume his normal work.  We have planned everything based on four weeks because the other surgeon gave us that time frame, but God knew this and we know that He will continue to provide all the needs for both the Mick and Thorburn families as He is and has been doing all along!   Only time will tell how this will go, and I don’t think anyone can truly make good predictions.  I’ll post an update here after surgery.  I might even be able to figure out how to add a picture of the guys (don’t count on it.. my “tech support” is in NY :))  Love, Anna

A little adoption-related happy dance

We learned today that the state agency who is handling the adoption of our new son will cover our airfare and then will reimburse us for expenses while in Nevada to transition him.  We are so very grateful for this unexpected and very much needed gift!   We were prepared to figure all this out, but with the surgery coming up, we weren’t quite sure how it would work.  We did know that God has planned and provided for both endeavors every step of the way thus far, so we had no doubt He would see us through to the end, in His time and way.  What a great thing to get the email from the wonderful worker in Nevada today!  The ICPC process continues.. on Monday we have a home visit to update our home study to pertain directly to our little boy in Nevada.  Then our worker fills out some more forms, and when all is approved by both states, we are good to go.. !!!!!!  Whoohoo!    Anna
