Moody Science DVD’s

Another drop in the “recommended” category.   Our children have watched these since they were toddlers, absorbing them in more comprehensive ways each year.  Truly captivating for the entire family.   There are 19 DVD’s and each one is approx. 30 minutes each. You can buy them in a set or separately for about $7 a piece.

In writing this post, I asked our children to give me some examples so I could jot this down quickly without looking back at the videos.   Here are some comments:

Lydia:  ”I remember microscopic flowers that are in the desert.  It is amazing how God created those flowers to stand the heat of the day and the extreme cold of the night.  I remember that after every video, they tell the gospel. The whole point is to prove God’s amazingness and to show how creation teaches us lessons.”

Jubilee:  ”Well, Mom, you didn’t let us see Empty Cities until we were a little older but it is my favorite.  It showed Mayan and Inca cultures and how they were so great and did amazing things but then the artifacts found there show they started to worshiped false gods and did human sacrifices.  They were the smartest and most advanced people on earth for a long time but the movie shows how today their descendants that are here today are some of the most primitive people on earth.  <note: this is the only video I didn’t let my super small children watch b/c it has some National Geographic type images of primitive nakedness (in modern day times) and killing images (on their stone carvings).. I would let the kids watch it earlier now than I did then (though not an adopted child for a while after they’ve been here), but there is a heads-up about that for parents. All the other videos are free of concern.>

Jesse:  ”In the one called Dust Or Destiny, it is really cool because you can see certain fish starting to form in their eggs.  It is cool how their mothers lay their eggs on the shore and not in the sea  If they don’t get out of their hole in a certain time, then they won’t live.  There is only one possible hour of the night that will actually work for them to do this and live and make it back into the tide, and the fish do it because God gave them instincts.   In Prior Claim, I remember that spider that makes a bubble so it can go under the water.  It even makes a home under the water in the bubble, or surrounded by bubbles.  In River of Life, it showed how the body works and it even shows you a real human heart beating on a pump, and all the valves.   The guy on the video shows us about how we need blood for our heart and also we need spiritual “blood”.. that God shed His blood for us and stuff like that.  In Windows Of The Soul, I learned how our eye turns everything upside down but then our brain turns it right side up so we can see!”  <believe me, I had to cut this short.. Jesse is on a MAJOR roll!  He has probably seen these a hundred times and he never gets sick of them!>

Valerie:  In The City Of Bees it shows how they can carry tons of honey to their hives.   Bees actually talk to one another.  They don’t allow sick bees to be in their hive.  Their system of life is way different than humans.   God created us to live differently than the bees.  I loved seeing how the nurse bees care for the larva.    In Prior Claim, it told about Venus Fly Trap and the Trap Door Spider, and many other things that were the basis for a lot of our modern inventions.”

Benjamin:  ”I like the bees movie!!!!!”  :^)
